Pay your Council Tax and win £25,000 in south London competition

Households across south London have just a few weeks left to sign up to pay their council tax by Direct Debit and be in with the chance to win a £25,000 cash prize.

The borough is one of 20 boroughs taking part in the London-wide prize draw, which since the campaign was launched in March, has seen more than 1033 people switch to pay their to council tax bill by Direct Debit.

To be in with a chance to win, residents must register to pay their council tax bill by Direct Debit by 5pm on 15th July 2010, either by: returning a completed paper Direct Debit Instruction to the local council, signing up to Direct Debit via the council’s website www.lbhf.gov.uk, or over the telephone 0845 803 1020. Residents who already pay their council tax bill by Direct Debit will be automatically entered into the prize draw.

Hammersmith & Fulham is also running an extra draw, only open to Hammersmith & Fulham residents, to award two additional second prizes of £250.

Councillor Stephen Greenhalgh, Leader of the council, said: "We are doing our bit to keep your council tax low, now you can help us by switching to Direct Debit. By increasing direct debit volumes, we can make huge savings that can be incorporated back into budgets, and used to enhance services."

The prize draw is being run in conjunction with Bacs Payment Schemes Ltd (Bacs), the not-for-profit organisation responsible for managing Direct Debit, and is open to residents from Barnet, Brent, Camden, City of Westminster, Ealing, Enfield, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Newham, Richmond and Wandsworth.

The prize draw will take place on 20th July 2010.
